CLS 2020 Fall Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to Creative Life Scrapbooking's 2020 Fall Blog Hop. I'm following Karyn from Karyn Crops today and Tessa from Tessa Scrapbooks will be your next stop. If you missed any of the stops today you'll find a list of all of the stops at the end of my post. Be sure to visit all of the stops on the list for some great ideas from the paper crafters and scrapbookers from Creative Life Scrapbooking. You might also want to follow our Facebook Page at Creative Life Scrapbooking for even more inspiration and ideas for your scrapbook projects.

Today I'm sharing a 2-page layout created with Creative Memories' Hello Autumn Collection. Fall is my favorite time of the year and I try to take every opportunity I have to get outdoor pictures wherever there is even a hint of fall color. I took the pictures used in today's layout at an apple orchard on a cold day in late September of 2019. The leaves on the apple trees were just beginning to turn but no matter, it still looked like fall, and the colors from the Hello Autumn Collection complemented my photos perfectly. You'll find instructions for my layout below.

Here's what you'll need to create today's layout:

By the way, here's what you'll get with Creative Memories' Hello Autumn Collection.
I used both packs of paper, the stickers, embellishments and the variety mat pack for my layout.

Instructions:

Step 1. Using two sheets of the light blue patterned paper shown as your base, mat two 4 x 6 photos with one crimson and one navy mat from the Hello Autumn Variety Mat Pack. Adhere to left page as shown. Adhere one 4 x 5 photo as shown below, overlapping the bottom matted photo. Using your 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade, cut an 8 3/4" square from the dark blue plaid paper shown. Adhere to right page as shown then adhere four 4 x 4" square photos to the plaid paper as shown below.

Step 2. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the Scallop Blade, cut a 1/2" x 12" strip from Navy Cardstock. Switch to the Straight Blade and cut a 2" x 12" strip from the red patterned paper shown below. Adhere the border sticker shown to the 2" x 12" strip as shown. Using a repositionable tape runner, adhere the navy strip to the underside of the 2" x 12" strip so the the scallop area shows as seen below. Adhere border strip to the right edge of the right page as shown.
Using the Border Maker and the Apple Chain Border Maker Cartridge, cut one 6 1/2" and one 10" border from Crimson Cardstock. Using a repositionable tape runner, adhere the 6 1/2" border to the left page and the 10" border to the right page, slipping the ends underneath the photo on the left and the border on the right. See photo below for placement.

Step 3. Using the Custom Cutting System, the square pattern from the Rectangle Patterns, and the red blade, cut a square from the red patterned mat from the Hello Autumn Variety Mat Pack. Using the green blade cut 2 squares from the blue patterned mat shown below. Using scissors or a personal trimmer, cut away the journal mat shown below from it's 4 x 6 mat. Round corners of your journal mat with a 2-Way Corner Rounder. If desired, ink edges of all four mats with either the chalking ink from the Alphabet Stamping System or the round tip of a black dual-tip pen. Adhere the journal mat to the right page and the squares to the left page as shown below.

Step 4. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer, cut a 2" x  4 1/4" piece from the red and white striped paper shown below. Adhere to your journal box as shown. Use a Navy Dual-Tip pen to journal your story, leaving space for the apple sticker shown below. Use foam squares to adhere the apple sticker shown to the journal box and add some bling if desired. Finish by adding the stickers and embellishments shown, using foam squares where desired for dimension.

Today I'm sharing a layout created with CM's Open Road Theme Pack. If you haven't tried CM's Theme Packs yet do check them out here. CM's Theme Packs include designer paper, cardstock and stickers and they're perfect for just about any event or theme you want to scrapbook. You'll find instructions for my layout below.

Here's what you'll need to complete today's layout:

Retired 3-in-1 Scallop Tag Punch

Instructions:
  1. Using the designer paper shown as your base, cut one 4" x 12" piece from the blue cardstock included. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the Deckle Blade, cut down the middle of the green pattern border from the border strips and mats designer paper (see illustration below). Switch to the Straight Blade and remove both strips as shown in the illustration below. Adhere both strips underneath each side of the blue cardstock as shown and adhere to left side of base. Cut one        2 1/2" x 12" piece from Wild Oats or Beige Cardstock and adhere to top of blue cardstock as shown.

  2. Adhere on 5 3/8" x 4" photo and one 3 3/4" x 4" photo to the blue cardstock as shown. Adhere on 5 3/4" x 3 1/2" photo and one 5 3/4" x 3" photo to the right side of the page with the left edge under the green border as shown. Remove the green journal mat from the border strips and mats designer paper and mat with blue pattern paper before adhering to page as shown.
  3. To create the Highways & Byways tag, cut one 1" x 4" strip from blue pattern paper and punch each end with the 3-in-1 Scallop Tag Punch. Use foam squares to adhere the title sticker shown. Adhere to page as shown.
  4. To create the green tag, use scissors to cut a 7/8" x 1 7/8" piece from a green portion of the green pattern paper. Use scissors to cut a V on one end and adhere to page as shown. Cut a 1" x 1 3/8" piece from blue pattern paper. Use scissors to cut a V into one end and adhere to page as shown. Finish cluster with the stickers shown.
  5. To finish, add border stickers, decorative stickers and word stickers shown, using foam squares where desired. Use a brown dual-tip pen to add your story and you're done.
By the way, the date on the bottom of the page was written on Correction Paper from the old CM (and no longer available). I messed up on my first try and the perfectionist in me didn't want to leave it that way!

Vitamin Sea Scrapbook Layouts

Hello and welcome to my blog! Have you seen Creative Memories' new Vitamin Sea Collection yet? Along with our new Seashells Decorative Border Punch and Kissing Fish Chain Border Maker Cartridge it's perfect for scrapbooking that tropical vacation you took last summer (before we were hit with the Covid 19 virus!). The photos used in two of today's layouts were taken on the Central California coast. Despite the fact that there are palm trees along the Central California coast, I wouldn't necessarily call it tropical. Never the less, I love how the patterns and colors complimented my photos! My third layout was created with photos I took while in Palm Springs last year. Again, not exactly tropical but the colors and patterns were perfect for my layout!

June is sketch month over at Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook Page and my first layout is my version of Lisa Brown Graham's sketch.

As you can see, I tweaked Lisa's sketch a bit by rotating the left page a turn to the left, keeping the bottom border as is. Keep scrolling for directions for this and all three of today's scrapbook layouts.

I love mixing patterns in my layouts but I don't love using up a lot of patterned papers to achieve the look I'm going for. My goal for the next two layouts was to use one sheet of patterned paper per two page layout in addition to my base (refill pages, cardstock or two sheets of pattern paper). My plan was to add variety and pattern with mats from the Vitamin Sea Variety Mat Pack, coordinating cardstock and paper scraps instead of cutting up more pattern paper. I used two sheets of patterned paper as my base for the next layout and white cardstock for the last (you could also use white refill pages). Except for the Spring Leaf Chain Border used on my Palm Springs layout I met my goal and saved myself a lot of patterned paper for more layouts! Woohoo!!

Here's what you'll get with the Vitamin Sea Collection:

Supplies needed to create today's layouts:

Instructions:

Layout 1: Lovin' Life
  1. Using your choice of cardstock as your base, cut one sheet of pattern paper into one 5"x12" piec and one 7"x12" piece. Cut each piece to 9 3/4 inches long, leaving you with one 5" x 9 3/4" piece and one 7" x  9 3/4" long. Set aside the two pieces you have left (you'll need them for layout #3). Adhere your 5" wide piece to the left page and the 7" wide piece to the right page as shown.
  2. Using your 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade, cut two 2 1/4" x 12" pieces from the blue stripe pattern paper shown. Adhere to the bottom edge of both pages as shown.
  3. Using your 12-Inch Trimmer and the Wave blade, cut two 1" x 12" strips from the dark blue pattern side of the blue stripe paper (see step 2 above). Using the same Wave blade, cut two     1 1/4" x 12" strips from light green pattern paper shown. Stack the dark blue strips and the light green strips and adhere to blue stripe border as shown.
  4. Using the Border Maker with the Kissing Fish Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch two borders from light blue cardstock (I used Light Blue Shimmer but Cloud would also work). Use a Repositionable Tape Runner to adhere to border as shown.
  5. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade, cut four 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" photo mats from light blue cardstock and one 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" photo mat from light green pattern paper. Use the light blue to mat four 4x6"horizontal photos and the the light green to mat one 4x6" vertical photo. Use a tape runner to adhere matted photos to layout as shown.
  6. Mat the 4 x 6" Lovin' Life mat from the Vitamin Sea Variety Mat Pack with the 4 1/2' x 6 1/2" dark green mat shown. Adhere to left page as shown. Cut one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" journal mat from light blue cardstock and adhere to left page as shown.
  7. Fussy cut around the 4th shell from Shell Laser Cut Border and use a Repositionable Tape Runner to adhere to the right page as shown - light tan side up. Adhere the light blue side to the left page as shown. Cover the wonky cut shell at the end of the border with the dark blue shell sticker shown.
  8. Cut the green laser cut border shown into two 5" long borders as shown and use Repositionable tape runner to adhere to layout as shown. Continue to embellish as shown or as desired, journal your story and you're done.
Layout 2: Make Your Own Sunshine
  1. Using two refill pages as your base and the 12-Inch Trimmer, cut one 1" x 12" strip and one       5" x 12" piece from dark blue pattern paper shown. Set aside the left over 6 x 12" piece (you'll need it for Layout 3). Adhere the 1 x 12" strip to the top and the 5 x 12" piece to the bottom of the left page as shown. Wallpaper the right page with another sheet of the same pattern paper.
  2. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade, cut one 6 1/2" x 12" piece from the coral pattern paper shown. From the 5 1/2 x 12" piece that's left, use the Seashells Decorative Border Punch to punch one seashells border. Set border aside with the 6 1/2" x 12" piece. Using the 12-inch trimmer and the Wave Blade, cut one 1/2" x 12" strip from the remainder of the coral pattern paper and set aside with the rest of the pieces cut from the coral pattern paper.
  3. Use the straight blade to cut the remaining pattern paper to 3 x 12 inches. With the leaf pattern side facing you, use your fingers to tear a narrow strip from the right edge. Hint: tear the strip towards you and at an angle to reveal the white core of the pattern paper. Set piece aside with the rest of your coral pattern pieces.
  4. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the Straight Blade, cut one 3/4" x 12" strip and two 2 1/2" squares from white or white shimmer cardstock. Using the Wave Blade, cut two 1/2" x 12" strips from the same white cardstock. Use the 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade to cut a  3 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece from the inside only of one 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" striped mat from the Vitamin Sea Variety Mat Pack, leaving a border around the mat. Set aside the outside piece to mat a photo later and cut the inside piece into two 2 1/4" squares and one 1" x 3 1/2" rectangle.
  5. To assemble the left page: use Repositionable tape runner to adhere the two white 1/2" x 12" Wave strips to the underside of the 6 1/2" x 12" coral pattern paper as shown, making sure the herringbone pattern side is up. Use a brown dual-tip pen and a ruler to add faux stitching as shown and adhere to the left page as shown. Adhere one 2 1/4" stripe square to the top of one  2 1/2" white square. Use a brown dual-tip pen and a ruler to add faux stitching to the edge of the stripe square. Adhere to page as shown. Using a repositionable tape runner, adhere the shell border shown to the page with the leaf pattern up as shown. Adhere three 3 3/4" x 5 3/4" vertical photos to the coral pattern paper as shown. Adhere the 4" x 6" journal mat shown to the page as shown. I used the discontinued 3 in 1 Tag Maker to punch both ends of the 1" x 3 1/4" rectangle but you can either cut a V into each end or leave as is. Adhere to top of page as shown. Embellish page as shown.
  6. To assemble the right page: adhere the light coral side of the Laser Cut Border shown to the right side of the right page as shown. Adhere the 3" x 12" torn paper piece shown to the page, covering part of the Laser Cut Border as shown. Adhere the 1/2" x 12" strip to the white 3/4" x 12" strip as shown. Adhere to page as shown. Adhere the remaining 2 1/4" striped square to the white square, add faux stitching and adhere to the border as shown.  Mat one 4" x 6" horizontal photo with empty center mat (see step 4) and one 4" x 6" vertical photo with another 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" striped mat from the variety mat pack. Adhere both to page as  shown.
  7. To finish layout, trim the Make Your Own Sunshine mat from the variety mat pack to 4 x 4 1/2 inches.  To create the dotted edge, using the fine tip end of a black dual-tip pen or the Denim Dot Pen and a clear plastic ruler and starting 1/8th of an inch from the edge, space your dots every 1/16th of an inch around the the edge of the mat. Adhere mat to page as shown. Cut a      1 3/4" x 4" rectangle from another striped mat, edge with faux stitching and adhere to page as shown. Fussy cut the floral laser cut border shown to about 4 inches long and adhere to rectangle. Embellish layout as shown, journal your story and you're done!
Layout 3: Sunsets & Palm Trees
  1. Using white cardstock as your base, adhere the 2 1/4" x 7" piece left over from Layout 1 to the bottom of the left page and the 2 1/4" x 5" piece to the right page as shown. Using the Border Maker and the Spring Leaf Border Maker Cartridge, punch a 12" long border from green pattern paper. Cut border to one 5" long piece and one 7" long piece. Use repositionable tape runner to adhere each piece to it's corresponding border as shown.
  2. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the straight blade, cut one sheet of the green pattern paper shown into one 4 1/2" x 12" piece which will leave you with a 7 1/2 x 12" piece. Use the 12-Inch Trimmer and the Stamping Blade to cut three 1/2" x 12" strips from the dark blue pattern paper left over from Layout 2. Adhere two strips to the underside of the 4 1/2" x 12" piece and one strip the the underside of the left side of the 7 1/2" x 12" piece. Adhere the 4 1/2" x 12" piece to the left page as shown, making sure that the left end of your border is covered. Adhere to the 7 1/2" x 12" piece to the right page as shown.
  3. Adhere a 3 7/8" x 5 3/4" vertical photo and two 4 x 6 inch horizontal photos to the left page as shown. Adhere three 4 x 6 inch horizontal photos to the right page, overlapping two of the photos as shown. Mat the Sunsets & Palm Trees mat with a 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" dark blue mat and adhere to right page as shown.
  4. I used dark blue sticker letters from the old Creative Memories for my sub-title on the left page but you can also use black if you like. To create the flags on the left page, cut one 1 1/4 x 2" piece from dark blue pattern paper scrap and one 1 5/8 x 1 3/8" piece from light green pattern paper scrap. Cut a V into one end of each and adhere to top of left page as shown.
  5. Embellish with palm trees from the Vitamin Sea Laser Cut Borders, add stickers and embellishment shown, journal your story and that's it! You're done!

CLS Spring Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to Creative Life Scrapbooking's 2020 Spring Blog Hop. I'm your first stop today followed by Noreen from Organized & Creative Mom. Karyn from Karyn Crops will be your last stop. You'll find a list of stops at the end of this post. Be sure to visit all of the stops for some super fun ideas for your spring layouts from the scrapbookers at Creative Life Scrapbooking. You might also want to follow our Facebook Page at Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook Page for inspiration and ideas for your scrapbooking layouts. Today I'll be sharing a layout created with Creative Memories' new Little Dreamer Collection.

I hear some are using CM's Little Dreamer Collection for non-baby layouts, but I'm going with the obvious. I'm super excited about this new baby collection and can't wait to complete layouts that feature my two youngest great-grandsons! The sweet little guy featured in today's layout is already a year old. Because of the stay at home orders in my state I haven't seen him since the beginning of the year and I miss him like crazy! Working on layouts that include my great-grandchildren's photos takes a bit of the sting out of not being able to be with them.

Be sure to click each image for a larger version.

My goal for this layout was to use cardstock as my base and no more than two sheets of pattern paper. I chose Candlelight cardstock from CM's recent Cardstock Buffet but you could also use white refill pages as your base or any cardstock color you like. You'll notice that the green mats are narrow. Because I didn't want to use a second sheet of green pattern paper, I cut photo mats from what paper was left after punching and trimming my cloud borders. I then trimmed my photos to fit my mats. The grey mat on the left was cut from a Variety Mat Pack photo mat. Finally the grey pattern paper and the plaid are two different sides of the same sheet of paper. Scroll down for a list of supplies needed and instructions.

Here's what you'll need to complete today's layout:
Little Dreamer Paper Pack
Little Dreamer Tone on Tone Paper Pack
Little Dreamer Foiled Embellishments
Little Dreamer Stickers
Little Dreamer Border Stickers
Little Dreamer Variety Mat Pack
Your choice of cardstock or refill pages
12-Inch Trimmer
Personal Trimmer (best for trimming photos)
Border Maker System and Clouds Border Maker Cartridge
2-Way Corner Rounder
Adhesives (Tape Runner, Repositionable Tape Runner, Foam Squares)
Black Dual Point Pen

Instructions:

  1. Using your choice of cardstock or refill pages as your base and the 12-Inch Trimmer, cut plaid pattern paper into two 3 3/4" x 12" pieces, which will leave you with one 4 1/2 x 12" piece. Set your two smaller pieces aside and adhere the 4 1/2" x 12" piece to the right page with the grey side up as shown.
  2. Using the Border Maker, the Clouds Border Maker Cartridge, and the 12-Inch Trimmer, punch and trim four 3/4" x 12" strips from the green pattern paper shown. Note: you can cut 1/2" x 12" strips if desired but make sure that your cut is no wider than 3/4" at it's highest point. You'll be using what's left of the green pattern paper for photo mats and will need about 9" x 12" left  for your photo mats.
  3. With the plaid side up and using Repositionable Tape, adhere strips to the underside of both of your 3 3/4" x 12" pieces as shown. Use a Tape Runner to adhere both pieces to layout as shown. Adhere Baby Love border stickers.
  4. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer, cut two 4" x 6 1/4" rectangles and two 4" x 4" squares from green pattern paper. Using the Personal Trimmer, trim two horizontal photos to 3 3/4" x 5 7/8" and two more photos to 3 3/4" square. Adhere photos with their mats to the layout as shown. Use the Personal Trimmer to trim the grey photo mat shown to 4 1/2" x 5" and a vertical photo to  4" x 4 1/2". Adhere photo mat and photo to right page as shown.
  5. Adhere the 4" long grey stripe border sticker above grey photo mat as shown. Use foam squares to adhere the Adorable banner sticker. To create the embellishment grouping under the grey photo mat, cut the green mat shown to 2 3/4" x 4" as shown. Use a corner rounder on the corners if desire and adhere to page as shown. Adhere the sticker and embellishments shown, using foam squares to adhere the heart embellishment.
  6. Use the journal mat shown to journal your story and create a title with the stickers and embellishments shown. Add the Love Bug sticker and you're done!

CLS Border Maker Monday - Creative Memories Spring Medley Collection

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today is Border Maker Monday on our Creative Life Scrapbooking Facebook Page and I'm sharing a new layout featuring CM's Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridge and Spring Medley Collection. The Spring Leaf Chain BMC is one of my favorites! It's great for creating a stand alone border or accent as well as borders created with a combination of border punches and border maker cartridges. For today's layout I used it to create stand alone borders that accent my title and sub-title.

You'll need the following Creative Memories products to create today's layout:
Here are directions for creating today's layout:
1. Using 12 x 12 Refill Pages as your base and the 12-Inch Trimmer, cut two 3 1/4" x 12" pieces from the grey pattern paper. Adhere each to the bottom of your bases. Cut two 8 3/4" x 12" pieces from the grey gingham paper and set aside.
2. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and the Scallop Blade cut three 1/2" x 12" strips from Grey or Silver Shimmer cardstock. Adhere two of the strips to the top of the grey pattern paper so that they overlap that paper 1/4" as shown. Adhere the grey gingham pieces to your layout as shown. Adhere the third cardstock strip to the left page so that the top of the strip measures 6 1/4" from the bottom of the bottom strip. Note: one edge of your strips will be covered by either the grey gingham paper or your pictures/journal box.
3. Using the 12-Inch Trimmer and Straight Blade, cut one 4 x 6" piece and one 4 1/2" x 11 1/2" piece from the dark blue pattern paper shown. Cut a V into one end of the 4 1/2" x 11 1/2" piece and adhere to the right page as shown. Adhere the 4 x 6" piece and two 4 x 6" vertical photos to the left page as shown. Cut one Variety Mat Journal Box in half and adhere to the 4 x 6" blue pattern paper as shown. Adhere two 4 x 6" horizontal photos and two 4" x 4" photos to the right page as shown.
4. Using the Border Maker System and the Spring Leaf Chain BMC punch one border from Silver Shimmer cardstock and two borders from the dark blue pattern paper. Trim the Silver Shimmer border to 7 5/8" long and adhere to the left page using repositionable tape runner. Adhere the remainder to the right page as shown. Trim one blue border to 5 1/2" long and use repositionable tape runner to adhere to the left page as shown. Trim the remaining blue border to about 7" long and use repositionable tape runner to adhere to the right page, tucking one end under the dark blue paper if needed.
5. I used dark blue ABC/123 stickers to create both my title and sub-title. I also cut the "arrow" off the dandelion speech bubble and used it to accent my title as shown. The floral stickers used on the right page were cut from one sticker and the cut ends were tucked under the embellishments shown. Finish by journaling your story and you're done!

I'd love to see what you've done with your own photos. Just visit my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/cmcdbrinsley  to leave a photo of your layout.

CLS Featured Friday Project - 2020 National Scrapbook Day Project Recipe Kit

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today is Featured Project Friday on Creative Live Scrapbooking Facebook Page  and I'm sharing two layouts created with CM's 2020 National Scrapbook Day project Recipe Kit. I absolutely adore this kit! It's just what I needed for pictures I took at an impromptu tea party held at my granddaughter's last summer. And, it's perfect for the pictures I took of my great-granddaughter eating strawberry shortcake in 2017!

I use project recipes mostly for inspiration but this time I used the NSD Project Recipe for my tea party photos and just changed it up a bit. I wanted to save as much of the strawberry pattern paper as possible for my second layout so instead of using two sheets as the background for my layout, I trimmed one sheet to 6" x 12" and pieced everything together. I also blew it big time when I cut the Scarlet cardstock so I went to a softer red from our discontinued Shades of Red cardstock pack. This was one easy peasy layout and I love it!

I created the strawberry shortcake layout with pieces left over from the first. Here are the instructions for my strawberry shortcake layout:
1. Using the strawberry pattern paper as your background, cut one 3" x 9" piece from the green pattern paper and one 5 3/4" x 7" piece from the aqua pattern paper. Assemble layout and adhere pieces to your background as shown with the aqua pattern paper partially covering the green.
2. Using the Border Maker and the Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch a 9" long border from the grey dot pattern paper. Use repositionable tape to adhere to the green pattern paper as shown.
3. Cut two 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" photo mats from red cardstock (I used Cranberry Cardstock but Scarlet Cardstock would also look great). Mat two 4" x 6" photos and adhere to page as shown.
4. I used a postage stamp punch from the old CM for the small aqua rectangle above my title but you can also cut a 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" rectangle from aqua cardstock. To finish your layout, create a vertical title using the TODAY letter stickers, use the journal box shown to journal your story and embellish as shown.
